Compass Dermatopathology, a full-service dermatopathology lab, has partnered with VECKTA, a technology platform that simplifies the transition to onsite energy, to install a solar, energy storage, and EV charging system that will save the company $3.85 million in utility costs.

As a high-energy usage 19,000-foot facility that processes sensitive patient samples around the clock, Compass sought to reduce its substantial energy costs and ensure reliable backup power to safeguard critical equipment and patient outcomes. After pursuing a project with various local developers, Compass turned to VECKTA for a more streamlined approach to assessing their site and finding the right partner to build the system. Through VECKTA’s platform, Compass right-sized its onsite energy system, received competitive proposals from top suppliers, and completed commercial and contract negotiations in under five months.

“VECKTA gave us the transparency and control we needed to confidently invest in an onsite energy solution that fits our unique needs as a 24/7 dermatopathology lab,” said Bart Calame, co-founder of Compass Dermatopathology. “We were at a loss about how to choose the right developer without leaving money on the table. With VECKTA, we quickly knew what system was right for our site and which developer we should partner with.”

The VECKTA platform analyzed thousands of data points – including Compass’s energy requirements, utility rates, solar and storage productivity and deployment costs, tax incentives, and the site’s layout – to automatically assess Compass’ site and produce a configured system.  VECKTA’s automated assessment tool considers rooftop, ground-mount, and carport solar, as well as battery storage, and VECKTA analysts can provide assessments of any other commercially viable onsite energy solution. Once VECKTA recommended an optimal setup, Compass was able to solicit bids and select from pre-qualified vendors through the platform’s marketplace.

“We steered Compass through the traditionally complex and costly project development process to reap the cost, reliability, and sustainability benefits of onsite energy sooner,” said Gareth Evans, CEO and Co-Founder of VECKTA. “The system VECKTA recommended was within 4 percent of the final CAPEX as the winning pre-qualified supplier, showcasing that with VECKTA as an enabling technology, customers can approach the market with confidence.”
